Unifiller Systems Inc. is a world leader in baking depositing and cake building technology. The company developed a stopper-gate module on an automated cake decorating system that stops and centers the cake. Two indexing 1” belts feed the cakes while the stopper-gate assembly stops the cakes in front of the icing and decorating machines.

The previous design was an up and down lift stopper gate which used a compact square air cylinder with anti-rotation rods. The design could not withstand the impact and icing was contaminating the rods.

To solve this problem, Unifiller Systems used iglide® L280, a plastic plain bearing, and igubal® spherical bearings in the stopper-gate module. The new design is a flip-flop type of stopper gate, which absorbs the mechanical shock and the plastic bearings can withstand the corrosive environment caused by the icing.
