High-performance polymers now machinable EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – April 16, 2008– Bearings specialist igus® now also offers semi-finished products in the form of lubrication-free, wear-resistant polymer stock bars. This means users can now benefit from using high quality, self-lubricating iglide® polymers in any machined part. It also means customers can now order a mechanically machined, special size bearing in any dimension from igus in low quantities. This is ideal for maintenance managers, special-purpose machinery manufacturers and plant builders who require high-performance material components in special dimensions, small quantities, or for test samples and prototypes. The 2-inch diameter solid rod is available in either iglide R or iglide J: two high quality bearing materials not accessible anywhere else on the market as semi-finished products. Anything machined from the stock bar will automatically possess the material qualities unique to all igus polymers: self-lubrication, zero maintenance, dirt and dust resistance, low wear, low friction, and so on. The machined plastic part will also have a predictable life when used as a bearing; something igus is able to calculate for plain bearings made from any of its iglide range. There are plans to make the stock bar available in other iglide materials in the future. iglide materials consist of complementary polymers, reinforcing fibers and solid lubricants for optimized material properties. igus conducts more than 8,000 tests every year while developing these in its in-house test center. One aim is to provide users with precise predictions about bearing behavior and service life. Critical factors observed during these tests include wear, friction, driving force, and responses to varying speeds and temperatures, corrosive agents, dirt, impacts, and shocks. About
