igus' Y.E.S. (Young Engineers Support) Program provides boundless benefits to young engineers

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – November 14, 2006 – Igus® Inc. says Y.E.S. to students who say Y.E.S. to success through the company’s Y.E.S. (Young Engineers Support) Program, which provides free product donations to students involved in various design competitions and school projects. Igus, the leading developer of Energy Chain Systems®, Chainflex® continuous-flex cables and iglide® plastic bearings, unveiled the Y.E.S. Program in March 2005 and has been proactively growing the program’s donations effort ever since.

Igus’ aims through Y.E.S. are two-fold. It hopes to not only support young engineers, but also to build awareness about the advantages and merits of plastic components among the engineers of tomorrow who will one day work on real-world applications. The Y.E.S. Program also offers students the luxury of using high-performance products without breaking the bank. Igus offers free product donations and design expertise to a wide range of organizations, including:

  • universities and colleges;
  • high schools and middle schools; and
  • engineering and robotics competitions such as FIRST® (For the Inspiration of Science and Technology) Robotics, BEST™ (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics, and the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Collegiate Design Series.

In conjunction with the Y.E.S. Program, igus also offers in-class presentations conducted by cable carrier and bearing experts. The presentation includes information about Y.E.S. and igus’ extensive line of plastic machinery components, along with various real-world and student-application success stories. Professors and students have the opportunity to see firsthand the benefits of the Y.E.S. Program and the various ways they can become involved.

Igus encourages students and professors involved in any type of engineering project or competition to contact igus for additional information about Y.E.S. or to request an in-class product presentation. Igus also welcomes inquiries from organizations hosting design and robotics competitions that are seeking products and sponsors.
