Leading developer of drift-containment sprayers uses iglide bearings for their maintenance-free, lubrication-free features and good looks

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. – February 28, 2007 – Igus® Inc., the industry-leading developer of iglide® plastic bearings, igubal® spherical bearings and DryLin® linear bearings and guide systems, today announced that Rogers Sprayers, a maker of enclosed drift-containment sprayers and spray booms, uses iglide bearings. Roger Sprayers’ products enable customers to be both cost-effective and environmentally safe when spraying chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides or track-able iron, on turf. The company offers two types of boom sprayers—the Windfoil ™ and the Falcon ™—which both use as many as 30 iglide R and iglide J bearings at various pivot points to prevent metal-on-metal contact.

Rogers Sprayers made the switch from nylon bearings to iglide for a number of reasons. The company needed a bearing that could withstand continuous exposure to both water and chemicals, which are prevalent during the spraying process. Iglide R and iglide J were the cost-effective, maintenance-free solution the company was searching for.

Both bearings boast extremely low moisture absorption and a low coefficient of friction. In addition to their maintenance-free, vibration-dampening and corrosion-resistant properties, iglide requires no lubrication. With grease eliminated from the equation, the bearings can operate on dusty, dirty outdoor terrain without incurring build-up or failing.

Aesthetics also played into Rogers Sprayers’ choice to use iglide. One of the top priorities for its customers is to keep the turf—on golf courses for example—clean. With iglide, customers never have to worry about unsightly grease stains while operating a boom.

“Iglide is a cost-effective, off-the-shelf solution for us,” said Merv Bilinski, owner and president of Rogers Sprayers. “The bearings come in contact with dirt, water and chemicals, and still deliver a superior performance to other solutions we’ve tried. We also like the fact that iglide isn’t an eyesore—it looks good on our machines.”

Both the Windfoil and the Falcon are available with various attachments for a wide-array of turf-treating jobs and are equipped with a drop-stop curtain, which seals the shroud to the turf’s surface.
