ECRM Imaging Systems in Tewksbury, Mass. is an industry leader in high value, violet CTP imaging systems – both semi-automated and automated for less than the cost of an imagesetter. ECRM needed to replace a steel linear bearing with a re-circulating ball carriage, which was mounted to an expensive base plate. The company needed a reliable, cost-effective and maintenance-free solution, so it called on igus® Inc. The product, an image setter cutter assembly, exposes film used to produce printing-press plates. Periodic cleaning and lubrication was required at each customer site. One plate in a printing press applies each color to the printed paper creating images for publications, books and newspapers. This specific Image setter is used for newspapers and must be fast and reliable. It cuts thousands of pieces of film each year. DryLin® N, a low profile linear guide system from igus, enabled ECRM to reduced costs by 50%, and achieve the flexibility needed to make the guide integral to the rest of the components used in the cutter assembly. The design flexibility is a result of eliminating the costly base plate and mounting sensors, a motor, pulley and handles directly to the guide without brackets. DryLin N also eliminated any and all maintenance needed after the delivery of the product to the customer. To learn more about ECRM Imaging Systems, visit www.ecrm.com. |
