| Official contest rules and conditions
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
1. To enter the contest: Entries will be accepted via the contest
Web site at http://www.manus.igus.com
or via mail, fax or email. You must
submit all required information and e-mail a media file (photograph
or drawing) proving the existence of your application in order
to submit your application electronically. Entrants submitting
their application by mail or fax must include a completed entry
form, a description of the application, an outline of the problem,
a photograph or drawing of the application and a detailed description
of the solution. Applications must be received no later than midnight,
January 31, 2004.
No purchase is necessary to enter or win, and purchase will not
affect your odds of winning. The manus committee assumes no responsibility
for late, lost, damaged or misdirected entries. Entry must be
acquired personally, made by an individual entrant and may not
be acquired or accumulated through the use of automated computer
scripts or other programming techniques.
2. Eligibility: Eligibility is limited to persons at least 18
years of age, who are legal residents of the United States or
its territories and possessions and Canada. This contest is operated
pursuant to the laws of Rhode Island, void wherever prohibited
or restricted by law. Employees (and their immediate families
and household members) of igus Inc. (“Sponsor”) their
parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents and advertising and
promotion agencies are not eligible.
3. How to Win: All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges
selected by the Sponsor. Participants agree to abide by all decisions
of Sponsor and the judges, which shall be final and binding with
respect to all issues relating to the contest. The panel of judges
shall review all eligible applications, (those involving all-plastic
or plastic-compound bearings and with significant proof of existence)
and select the top three most creative and ingenious applications.
4. Prizes: Grand Prize, which will be awarded to the 1st place
selected application, is $5,000 cash, a certificate of recognition
and a gold manus statuette. Second Prize, which will be awarded
to the 2nd place selected application, is a $2,500 cash prize,
a certificate of recognition and a silver manus statuette. Third
Prize, awarded to the 3rd place selected application, consists
of a $1,000 cash prize, certificate of recognition and a bronze
manus statuette.
In addition, winners will be offered round-trip airfare and one-night
lodging, as well as transportation to and from the awards ceremony
if they are not already planning to attend the National Design Engineering
Show in Chicago, Ill., February 23-26 2004. Offer includes round-trip
coach-class airfare (taxes included) on a major airline from the
major gateway airport nearest Winners’ residence that is served
by the major airline to Chicago, one night hotel accommodations
at a location in Chicago selected by Sponsor and round-trip ground
transportation transfers for the winners from the Chicago airport
to the hotel. Travel accommodations subject to availability. All
trip components will be selected by Sponsor at its sole discretion.
All other expenses not specifically listed herein are not included
and are the sole responsibility of Prize winner. Travel must be
completed during the time period specified by Sponsor or offer will
be forfeited.
All properly claimed prizes will be awarded. Only the prizes
specified in the numbers indicated will be awarded. All winners
are required to comply with all reasonable requests for tax identification.
Odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries
received.
5. Prize Notification: Winners will be notified by telephone
and e-mail.
6. Announcement of Winner: Announcements will be made on the
manus Web site, the Design News web site and the igus Web site
and the list of winners will be posted on all sites between February
23-26, 2004. You may request the winners’ names, available
between February 26 to May 26, 2004 by sending a stamped self-addressed
envelope to: manus, PO Box 14349, East Providence, RI 02914.
7. Conditions of Participation: Participants agree to be bound
by these rules and all decisions of the contest judges, whose
decisions will be final. By entering the contest, each entrant
grants to Sponsor and its agents and others working on their behalf
the right to publish (in print or electronic/Internet media) their
written entries and any supplemental photographs or drawings.
By accepting a prize, each winner grants to Sponsor, its agents
or others working on their behalf the right to photograph the
winner, to use the winner’s name, picture, likeness and
city and state of residence for advertising and marketing purposes
and to post (electronic/Internet media) at the discretion of Sponsor
without additional compensation, unless otherwise prohibited by
law. The publication rights described herein refer only to the
materials submitted as the manus plastic bearing design contest
entry. All entrants entering applications in the manus contest
assign to Sponsor the right to publish (in print or electronic/Internet
media) their entries.
By accepting a prize, winners also agree to release Sponsor and
its advertising promotional or judging agencies from any and all
liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries,
damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained
in connection with the receipt, ownership or use of the prize or
while preparing for, participating in, and/or traveling to any prize-related
activity. Taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the winners.
Void where prohibited by law.
Prize must be claimed within thirty (30) days of first attempted
notification or will be forfeited. Unclaimed prizes and all prizes
that Sponsor is unable to award in the event that there are not
enough eligible entries will be returned to Sponsor. All entries
become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged
or returned. Sponsor and its agents are not responsible for technical,
hardware, software or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost
or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete,
inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused
by the sender, or by any of the equipment or programming associated
with or utilized in this contest which may limit processing of
the entries in this contest. If, for any reason, (including infection
by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention,
fraud, technical failures, or any other cause beyond the control
of Sponsor, which corrupts or affects the administration, security,
fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this contest), the contest
is not capable of being conducted as described in these rules,
Sponsor shall have the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel,
terminate, modify or suspend the contest. If the contest is terminated
due to tampering or technical difficulties prior to its expiration
date, notice will be posted at http://www.manus.igus.com.
Any attempt to deliberately damage the content or operation of
this contest is unlawful and subject to legal action by Sponsor
or its agents.
