Plastics and shafting for linear motion

DryLin linear bearings are not simple plastics, but rather complex compounds and shapes engineered specifically for linear motion. They are able to run without grease or maintenance due to networks of fibers and dry lubricants, which enhance lifetime and friction. The materials chemically mate themselves to the shafting as noted above.

They are available in three different materials: iglide J, iglide J200 and iglide T500. Iglide J is our most versatile material and can be used with most shaft materials including:

  • aluminum;
  • case-hardened;
  • stainless steel; and
  • chrome plated steel.

T500 is a high-temp bearing and chemical problem solver, while J200 is specifically for use on aluminum shafting.

Helpful tips

For steel shafts make sure that your RMS is correct.

  • Case hardened steels = 4-12RMS
  • Soft stainless steels = 8-32RMS

Too smooth of a finish won't allow the lubrication system to be equally distributed and may result in squeaking. Too rough a system may incease bearing wear. Many of our customers save extra costs by using lower priced and easier to machine 300-series stainless steel over case hardened parts.

  1. Consider hard-anodized shafting—
    In most applications, the bearing achieves longer life, higher velocities and results in lighter designs—not to mention lower freight costs and cheaper to machine parts. Our DryLin S aluminum has a special coating developed specifically for use with DryLin linear bearings using iglide J or J200.

  2. For high temps and chemical resistance—
    Use our T500 liner (up to 599°F) and 440 stainless steel shafting for optimal performance.

  3. For chrome-plated shafts—
    Use our T500 liner, which will deliver the longest life.
