igus® solutions for retractable thrusters

Retractable thrusters are nowadays used as main drives and also for dynamic positioning. The extendible drives must be supplied partly with hydraulic or water lines, but primarily with motor cables, while they are extended and retracted from the ship's hull. For this purpose, igus® offers a large number of drag chain types that can be perfectly adapted to the cables involved and make it possible to keep the installation space small. The low weight as well as the corrosion resistance of the energy chain is an advantage over steel energy chains.

For this purpose, igus® offers a large number of drag chain types that can be perfectly adapted to the cables involved and make it possible to keep the installation space small. The low weight as well as the corrosion resistance of the energy chain is an advantage over steel energy chains.

The small bend radius of the igus® chainflex® cables is also a great advantage for extendible drives, which means that the required installation space for the energy chain system can be optimally utilised. The cable-friendly plastic surfaces and the sophisticated design of the energy chain ensure a long service life of the cables compared to steel energy chains.

igus® also offers pre-assembled energy chains. These are completely equipped with cables and connectors and save time in installation and assembly of the extendible drives. Thanks to the experienced igus® engineering team, interfaces for cables and hoses with the system and guide troughs are appropriately dimensioned and designed and can be provisioned in the CAD model in the plan. All in close collaboration with the customer to obtain the ideal energy chain system that convinces through reliability and a maintenance-free property.
