Students from the Ambassadors for Christ Academy rocketed to the top with their BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) robot by successfully fixing a damaged Hubble telescope and securing a first place finish in the field competition at Kan. BEST. The team used a DryLin® N low-profile linear guide system donated by igus® to enable the robot’s claw-like mechanism to extend and retract while replacing dead batteries from the out-of-commission telescope. The team reported that the DryLin linear guide system, “reduced friction and increased speed” on its robot. The team went on to win third place while competing against 20 other teams at the Frontier Trails regional competition in Ark. The team also took home the igus Top Gun Award for scoring the most points in a single round of play.
