Twenty-five students from Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, Mass. competed in the 2006 FIRST Robotics regional in Manchester, N.H. and Boston, Mass. The students designed and built a robot, known as SPAZ-BOT, for the competition titled Aim High. The students used iglide® and igubal® bearings, along with DryLin® S aluminum shafting donated by igus® on their robot. The igus components not only allowed to team to easily reduce the weight of its robot, but also aided the robot's roller system in delivering balls to its automatic shooting mechanism. The shooter enables the robot to fire game balls into goals set more than 10 feet off the ground. The Algonquin High School's SPAZ-BOT ranked 16 out of 52 robots competing in N.H. and was choosen to join a top-seeded robot alliance that advanced to the quarter finals before being eliminated. In Mass., the team also did well, ranking 12 out of 44. In addition, the team won the Johnson & Johnson Sportsmanship Award and the DaimlerChrysler Team Spirit Award.
