Students at the University of Arizona built a racecar for the 2005 Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and used donated products from igus®.

The team used the products in the pedal tray assembly and steering system. For the pedals, students used a DryLin® linear guide system to create an adjustable tray that accommodates a wide-range of driver heights and positions. The DryLin linear guide is strong enough to absorb all the moments going through the tray and acts as a space-saving, lightweight alternative to other options.

Igubal® rod ends were used on the gas pedal to connect the push pull cable for throttle activation and iglide® bearings were used in the steering column. The team also employed iglide bearings in the rack extensions to help absorb the moments going in through the tie rods to the steering rack.

The University of Arizona SAE team placed 79th against 123 teams and is already gearing up for the 2006 Formula SAE season, once again using igus products.
