The TechHounds, a student team from Carmel High School in Ind., has been involved with FIRST Robotics for the past five years. This year the team created a robot for Aim High, a basketball-like challenge that requires student-programmed and student-operated robots to score points by shooting foam balls into various goals.
Fifty-eight students worked on the robot for the 2006 competition and used donated products from igus®. Iglide® and igubal® bearings were used on multiple parts of the robot including both the shooting and roller systems and without igus bearings, the TechHound robot would have been 20 pounds over the weight limit specified by FIRST.
Carmel High School attended the Boilermaker Regional in Lafayette, Ind. and ended the competition in 7 th place out of 29 teams. The students also took home two honors for their work including, the Autodesk Visualization Award and the General Motors Industrial Design Award.
