The Grady Gear Box Gangstaz from Grady High School proved that this rookie team has staying power at the 2005 BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics competition. Even though it was the team’s first year participating, the students placed second at South’s BEST regional after winning the wild card at the local competition.

The team used a DryLin® low-profile linear guide system to create a slide-out electronic bay on its robot and igubal® spherical bearings were used to support fingers which rotate 170 degrees to aid in replacing the dead batteries of the faulty Hubble telescope. DryLin S aluminum shafting, also donated by igus®, was used in on the grabber mechanism of the machine.

In addition to the team’s impressive placement, the Gangstaz also were awarded two prizes for design and the Rookie All-Star Award.
