The Indy Robot Racing Team competed in the 2005 DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Grand Challenge, a field test intended to accelerate research and development in the area of autonomous ground vehicles. Headed up by two Ind. entrepreneurs, the Indy Robot Team is comprised of approximately 100 volunteer professionals and students from across the state. The Indy Team used Energy Chain donated by igus on its vehicle. The team reported it was the perfect solution for housing and protecting routing cables and wires for 11 sensors, two cameras and one servomotor. Although they did not qualify for the final DARPA race across the desert, the team feels that the technology it developed will, “help propel Indiana to the forefront of the a new high-tech robotic and autonomous vehicle industry.” To learn more about the Indy Robot Racing Team, visit www.indyrobotics.com.
