Many teams went into “overdrive” for this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition. Among them was the team from Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif. This team designed a robot that could pick up track balls using a globe motor driven belt, then move the ball upward on an elevator mechanism created with donated igus ® parts. The belt then goes into reverse and projects the ball over an overpass.

The 15-member team used DryLin ® R linear bearings to maintain smooth, fluid motion of the elevator component. Overall, the team from Monte Vista placed 10 th out of 40 teams in its regional competition.
