The XOF1 Solar Car will be displayed at the Green Grand Prix in Watkins Glen, New York on May 3. The XOF1 (Power of One) Solar Vehicle initiative is the brainchild of Marcelo Da Luz that has come to fruition through his partnerships with Seneca College, the University of Waterloo, and numerous sponsors including igus®, Inc.

Though solar powered, the XOF1 also relies on battery power comprised primarily with Chainflex® cable connections. Chainflex continuous-flex cables offered an endurance that has aided the XOF1 in travels worldwide by enabling the creation of an “umbilical cord” for the car’s solar panel. With Chainflex, the team can open the hood and recharge the solar panel anywhere on its route.

Since first garnering attention on TV spots, like Breakfast Television, the XOF1 has received more acclaim in numerous features on FOX, ABC, NBC, Univision, and the family of Discovery channels. WIRED Magazine also took interest in the vehicle, with an invitation to NextFest 2007, a four-day celebration of innovation in design and technology, hosted annually by the publication.

Now that the XOF1 has been licensed for use on public roads, its owners and creators are looking forward to their upcoming documentary, featuring a star-studded soundtrack, and staying ever-focused on setting a new world distance record.
