The Texoma Home Educators (THE) used igus® products on its robot, Stompin’ Steve, which competed in the BEST™ (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. This year’s game, titled the Laundry Quandary, challenged students to build a remotely operated robot capable of hanging and removing bandanas from clotheslines placed at multiple heights.

The THE team accomplished this mission with a two-stage deployment process, made possible by donated igus® components. The first step was for its robot to use stored energy supplied by a trip switch. The energy enabled the robot’s scoring device to travel upwards with the aid of an igubal® rod ends and DryLin® S aluminum shafting. The second step was for the robot’s telescoping arm to extend using a DryLin N linear guide system in order to hang the “laundry.”

Igubal rod ends also enabled THE’s robot to hold up to 12 bandanas in a single scoring move and DryLin N provided consistent, smooth travel for the robot’s moving arm. THE took home 1st place in the competition at regionals and also was honored with the BEST Award. To find out more about the team, visit www.thentbest.com.
