Students from the University of British Columbia set out to aid people without sight for their mechanical engineering capstone project. The team of four students designed and built a working device capable of embossing Braille characters onto business cards in a more efficient manner than manual embossing.

On the machine, the students used a DryLin® QuadroSlide donated by igus which is comprised of an aluminum housing, aluminum end blocks, DryLin S aluminum shafting and DryLin R plastic linear bearings. The Quadroslide is a superior solution for team, as it is both lightweight and maintenance-free and enables the aligned linear motion of the die press assembly.

The UBC team learned about igus and its Y.E.S. (Young Engineers Support) Program through professors and fellow students who had used donated products from the company with great success.
