A DryLin® W linear guide system was the picture-perfect component for a student team at the University of New Mexico. For their senior design project, the students designed and built a photo-mat cutter, which used DryLin W to achieve linear motion while cutting the photo mats.

DryLin W is lubrication-free, making it an ideal solution for the cutter. With DryLin W, the students were able to eliminate oil from the environment, which can damage the paper photo pieces during the cutting process.

”The DryLin W linear guide system to be easily adaptable and well designed,” said Debbie Clark, University of New Mexico student. “Many thanks to igus!”

DryLin W also enabled the team to achieve its number one design goal for the device—smooth cutting action. With DryLin W, the mat board did not snag or tear. And, because of igus'® donation, the University of New Mexico team was able to allocate its money to buying other essential components in order to complete the project.
