Every year, as part of a senior capstone design project, engineering students at the University of Rhode Island build an off-road vehicle that will, “survive the severe punishment of rough terrain,” and compete in the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) mini baja competition. Th 2004 team used igubal® rod ends donated by igus® to support the steering shaft of its vehicle. The mini baja competition provides students with a challenging project that involves planning and manufacturing tasks when introducing a new product on the consumer market. The team finished 22nd out of a large number of applicants from across the United States and Canada and plans to compete in future SAE competitons. |
