Project: Linear induction motor drive
Product used: Energy Chain and Chainflex

Bojan Djokanovic, a graduate student at the University of Missouri-Rolla, used donated Energy Chain® and Chainflex® continuous-flex cables while equipping a linear induction motor drive with sensorless position control. The project was part of various research initiatives at the Emerson Energy Conversion Lab, which operates as part of UMR.

The igus® Energy Chain houses and protects Chainflex 14 AWG power cables that aid the motor by performing two important functions. The cables not only supply power to the motor, but also carry encoded commands to the scanning head that is fixed to the motor and electronic acquisition system.

Djokanovic said the donated igus products provide, “a quiet and reliable high-speed communication and energy flow between the highly movable motor and digitally controlled static power converter.”

Due to the impressive performance of the Energy Chain and Chainflex, Djokanovic feels confident he will use igus products again in the future.

“I am very satisfied with igus products and the technical support I received,” Djokanovic said. “If I need cable carriers in the future, I have no doubt I will contact igus.”
