Stacey High School students got a look at real world engineering while participating in the 2005 BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics competition. The team built a robot designed to replace dead batteries on a simulated Hubble telescope.

The students used Energy Chain® cable carrier, a DryLin® N low-profile linear guide system, igubal® rod ends and DryLin S aluminum shafting donated by igus to improve the functionality of their robot.

“[Igus products] made the entire project much easier to design and build,” reported the team, who also noted it received many compliments on the smoothness, toughness and reliability of the robot.

The students placed first against 28 teams at San Antonio BEST, earning themselves a whopping $55,000 in college scholarship money. The igus Top Gun Award was among other honors earned by the team at the Texas BEST regional.
