Cleanroom environments put especially high demands on the wear resistance of any automated systems. Cable carrier systems from igus®’ Series E6 and E14 ranges have been tested by the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation (IPA) in the area of cleanroom compatibility and micro-production.
The result: according to VDI 2083, page 8, (clean room capability of equipment), Series E6 can be used in travel speeds of v = 3.3 ft/s and v=6.6 ft/s in cleanrooms classed according to ISO Class 3 (DINE EN ISO 146441-1). Series E14 cable carriers are suitable for travel speeds of 3.3 ft/s in ISO Class 2 cleanrooms. Of particular interest is that each of the cable carriers tested were igus® standard versions and were not made from special materials.
One semiconductor manufacturer needed especially clean air for its wafer processing equipment. As the thin slices of semiconductor material are exposed to the environment, the cleanroom capability of the cable carrier system, among other things, is very important here.
Tests by the company revealed that the wear rate of the igus® cable carrier could not be determined even in long-term tests, as it was so minimal. A Zipper energy chain is mounted in a hanging, or vertical position. At a travel distance of 11.4 inches, 50-60 cycles per hour is attained in three-shift operation.
Other advantages: the patented Zipper system enables cables to be installed into the cable carrier at lightning speed.
