A rail-guided conveying system in open-face mining uses two e-chains® from igus® for cable management. The first is installed in a conveyor belt at a height of eight metres – the second to a prototype which is equipped with pressure plates and loads material from a mine pile onto the collecting conveyor. Both move around 50 metres along the rail. Unfavourable environmental conditions such as lack of space or the sand, which continually contaminates the system, also had to be taken into account.
