e-skin: revolutionary energy supply – the versatile corrugated tube

Guide cables in cleanrooms with e-skin safely and abrasion-free

The production of microchips, flat screens, implants, pharmaceutical products or micro- and nano-products would be inconceivable without a clean, pure or high-purity manufacturing environment. Any contamination has a direct negative impact on products and processes and costs a lot of money to the manufacturer.  For the area of energy supply, igus has therefore developed a modular corrugated tube and a flat cable guidance system for cleanrooms. They supply machines with data, media and energy and minimise abrasion. As a result, there are no particles that can get into the air. Delimiting rules are adhered to and contamination is avoided.

Benefits:

  • IPA classification ISO Class 1, Report No. IG 1907-1125
  • Compact and modular design
  • Abrasion-resistant
  • Easy to install
  • Easy to open and flexible filling
  • Can be shortened as necessary
  • Quiet operation
  • Especially suitable for cleanrooms as completely closed
  • Reclosable opening mechanism

Application examples

Tested in the igus lab

Continuous test The e-skin has been specially developed for cleanroom applications. In the laboratory, it withstood more than 6.4 million double strokes at
3m/s under realistic conditions.
bending test

Bending test

The standard bending tests show how flexible the e-skin soft is. It only bends, even under loads that would break other energy chains.

e-skin tests

Noise level measurement

This test shows how quiet 'e-skin' corrugated tubes and 'e-skin flat' cleanroom cables are. Compared to flat ribbon cables of competitors, the noise level of the e-skin flat is only 29dB(A).

e-skin Q & A's

When do I need an e-skin for my machine?

  • LCD, LED, OLED, semiconductor applications with cleanroom requirements
  • As soon as you need a closed energy supply system for a cleanroom application
Has the e-skin been approved for cleanroom applications?
  • Yes, we tested the SK28, SKS28, and SKF12 series in the Fraunhofer IPA test centre for semiconductor devices on the basis of ISO Class 14644-1 and obtained ISO Class 1 certification for all products.
Can I use the e-skin only self-supporting or for gliding applications?
  • Only unsupported but please contact us and we will find a solution!
