Flexible Coaxial Cables for Movement

Coaxial cable

chainflex® coaxial cables for use in moving applications. Our coaxial cable has been specially developed for use in moving machine applications. It is often installed in igus® e-chains®. chainflex® coaxial cables are available with the following specifications:

coaxial cable 75 Ω RG-179
coaxial cable 50 Ω RG-58
coaxial cable 50 Ω RG- 178

The coaxial cable is exactly the right cable for extremely high levels of stress. In general, the following can be said about coaxial cables: Encroachment of the fields onto the surroundings is almost completely ruled out as the fields are kept inside a coaxial tube. With a coaxial cable, there is less attenuation than with a two-wire cable and coaxial cables can therefore be used up to and within the GHz range. The distance between the inner and outer conductor, however, must be greater than half a wavelength because, otherwise, additional wave types with longitudinal field components are possible and falsify the propagation of signals. What is the structure of a coaxial cable? A coaxial cable consists of a copper conductor in the "middle", i.e. inside the cable, and an outer conductor. They are separated from each other by a layer of insulation. If voltage is applied, an electric field is built up, but only between the inner conductor and outer conductor. As a result, a magnetic field is produced on the outside. For reasons of safety, the braided shield is enclosed in a jacket in order to protect it against damage.

Our chainflex® coaxial cables are UV-resistant and biooil-resistant. You can choose between igus® chainflex® coaxial cables as a 1-core axial cable or a 5-core axial cable. You can choose between the 1-core coaxial cable with 75 Ω as the RG-179 version or the 5-core coaxial cable as 50 Ω RG-58 as well as 50 Ω RG-178. All the coaxial cables can be mounted in a machine, of course. As the igus® chainflex® coaxial cable has an especially long service life in moving applications, the cable is very often installed in our energy chains. Several types of cable such as bus cables, data cables, fibre optic cables or control cables are usually installed together. They are kept apart by separators to prevent interference in the cable and tangling. As a specialist in tribologically enhanced polymers, igus® places great value on a very high quality standard.

You can calculate the service life of chainflex® coaxial cables with our service life calculator for coaxial cables. If you are not sure whether our coaxial cable matches your needs, then use the simple and convenient Chat function on our website to talk to us. Our chainflex® experts are always there to help you. You can of course reach us by e-mail or by phone as well. igus® chainflex® coaxial cables are especially flexible and, as a result, are extremely well suited for moving applications.

Due to the fact that the service life can be calculated, the igus® chainflex® coaxial cable fits in well with the slogan: works – or your money back!
