robolink® articulated arms are ideal for difficult-to-access, hazardous work areas and for use where there is spray water. In an application of a Chinese machine tool manufacturer, a robolink® D is being used under exactly these conditions. In a very small space, the robot joint with a pneumatic suction gripper removes half shells of mobile phones from a machine. The repetition accuracy is approx. 1 mm and the cycle time is 15 seconds. The high degree of modularity of the robolink® construction kit made it possible for a self-developed suction tool to be attached to the articulated arm for the application. Contact with coolant spray water is not a hindrance.
In order to equip the articulated arm for work where there is spray water, use was made of water-tight robolink® D joints, which are moved with four IP65 stepper motors that are also water-tight. The connecting plates between the joints were specially made by igus® in the desired length so that they are ideally matched to the work process involved. The suction gripper was developed independently by the customer. The sequence of movements of the articulated arm is controlled with the help of a self-programmed control unit.
