The prevention of electrostatic charge is an important requirement in many application areas. At the same time, the other technical application parameters, such as wear resistance, media, and temperature resistance, use in wet environments, etc. must not fall by the wayside. With its broad property profile, iglide® F2 represents a new universal bearing for a wide range of EMC compatible applications.

Mechanical properties

The pressure resistance of iglide® F2 plain bearings declines with increasing temperatures. Fig. 02 clarifies this connection. With the long-term permitted application temperature of +248°F, the permitted surface pressure still amounts to 2,901 psi. Maximum recommended surface pressure represents a mechanical material parameter. Tribological conclusions cannot be drawn from it.

Fig. 03 shows the elastic deformation of iglide® F2 during radial loading. Under the maximum recommended surface pressure of 6,817 psi, the deformation amounts to less than 2,6%. A plastic deformation can be negligible up to this pressure load. It is however also dependent on the period of exposure.

Permitted surface speeds

The maximum permitted surface speeds are based on the operation period and the type of motion. A bearing is the most stressed in long-term rotating motions. Here the maximum speed for the iglide® F2 bearing is 157 ft/min. The maximum values specified in Table 02 are not often attained in practice due to interactions.

Temperatures

The ambient temperatures strongly influence the properties of bearings. The pressure resistance of iglide® F2 bearings declines with increasing temperatures. Fig. 02 highlights this correlation. Additional safety is required at temperatures over +158°F.

Shaft materials

Fig. 06 shows the results of tests of various shaft materials with bearings made of iglide® F2. In the lower load range, machining steel and hard-anodized aluminium shafts, as well as St37 and hard-chrome-plated steel shafts prove to be the best counter partners in rotating applications with iglide® F2 bearings from a wear perspective. Fig. 07 shows a far lower level of wear with rotational movements than pivoting movements across the complete load spectrum, with an otherwise comparable graph line shape.

Table 05: Chemical resistance of the iglide® bearings F2

Electrical properties

Specific forward resistance < 109 Ωcm
Surface resistance < 109 Ω

Chemical resistance

iglide® F2 bearings have a good resistance against chemicals. They are resistant to most lubricants. iglide® F2 is not affected by most weak organic and inorganic acids.

Radioactive rays

iglide® F2 bearings are radiation resistant up to a radioactive intensity of 3 · 10² Gy.

UV-resistant

iglide ® F2 plain bearings provide comparatively good UV resistance.

Vacuum

In application in vacuum, the potentially existent moisture content is degassed. For this reason only the dry iglide® F2 bearings are suitable for vacuum.

Electrical properties

iglide® F2 bearings are electrically conductive.

Maximum moisture absorption
by +73 °F/50 % r. F. 0,2 weight-%
Max. water absorption 0,4 weight-%
Table 06: Moisture absorption of iglide® F2

Moisture absorption

The humidity absorption of iglide® F2 bearings amounts to about 0.2 % in standard climatic conditions. The saturation limit in water is very low at 0.4%. This must be taken into account according to application conditions.

Installation tolerances

iglide® F2- bearings are standard bearings for shafts with h-tolerance (recommended minimum h9). The bearings are designed for press-fit in a housing with h7 tolerance. After the installation in a housing with nominal diameter, the inner diameter of the bearing automatically adjusts to the E10 tolerance. In certain dimensions the tolerance in dependence on the wall thickness deviates from this (See delivery program )
