Buy a bright orange car, strip it to its frame, replace 56 metal bushings, bearings and sliding elements with plastic parts, put it all back together, hire a Poly-Sci student to drive and blog about the car, stick the car on an airplane to India and start racking up the miles. Not just in India, mind you, but China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, USA, Canada and a host of European countries. After 65,000 miles, bring it to a trade show and publicly strip it again to show how the bearings held up. All to celebrate what iglide® plastic bearings have been doing for 30 years: Provide the best bearing material at the lowest cost for any number of applications.
The igus® car spent 4 weeks at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences being retrofitted with iglide® bearings. After a trip around the world and thousands of miles, the car will be stripped down again at the Hannover Fair in 2015 to demonstrate how the bearings endured the journey
56 iglide® were retrofitted into 56 different applications throughout the car. Here are just a few of the many places they are used. Other places in the car where iglide® bearings were used include the hinge systems, steering systems, gears, water pump and brake calipers.
