Successfully in use for over a year: e-spool in a confined space in a baler.

Machines that press materials into bales are used in many industries, such as in agriculture for hay bales. During the pressing process, each bundle is to be sealed. This process is coupled with rotation. Since there is little space available for electrical cables and pneumatic hoses, they have to be connected to the applicator via e-chains. The e-spool system has now proven itself in use for over a year.

Problem

The Belgian manufacturer Valvan Baling Systems offers, among other things, solutions for baling bales. As the name suggests, balers make it possible to bundle a wide variety of materials into compact bales. In agriculture, the hay is compressed in trailers behind the tractor and at the same time each bundle is sealed before it is ejected from the baler into the field. The sealing process is associated with rotation. For this process, a solution had to be found for the routing of the various electrical cables and pneumatic hoses in the machine in a small installation space.

Solution

Today, a rotating ring is installed around the press box and between the columns of the baler. The line solution was solved via a plastic energy chain, which unwinds together with the clockwise rotational movement of the ring while the hay bale is sealed. After ejecting the hay bale, the energy chain can then be retracted by turning the ring counterclockwise. The rotation of the application exceeds 360 ° to about 455 °. Today, this achievement is achieved by an e-spool that has been specially developed for such rotational movements. Thanks to an energy chain width of a maximum of 50 mm, the tailor-made solution for the manufacturer can also be found in the very limited installation space. The installation has been working reliably for more than a year.
