Lubrication-free linear systems for extendable alcove and kitchen block in caravans

• Success for the customer: The drylin SLW linear axes can be very easily integrated into the surrounding structure, are compact, lubrication-free and torsion-resistant. The electric motor to drive the system can also be obtained from our product range.

When the "Zoom" is on the road, it is only 3.90 metres long, making it a real compact caravan. Once at the campsite, the camper can simply use an electric motor to slide out the entire sleeping area over the trailer coupling, gaining not only 1.32 metres of more usable length, but also an alcove with an extremely spacious double bed measuring 1.60 x 2.05 metres, which does not get in the way of the seating area or the kitchen.
However, the slide-out alcove is by no means the only innovation in the "Zoom". The kitchen concept is just as well thought-out and new. It is located in the rear and can easily be transformed into an open-air kitchen by swinging open the large tailgate. Ross Design has created a movable kitchen block that moves along the vertical axis on two lateral lead screw axes. If you want to cook outside, simply lower the kitchen a little. And if you raise the kitchen block all the way up, you can load bicycles or canoes through the large tailgate.
For the linear systems for the alcove and kitchen, the manufacturer needed compact systems that could be easily integrated into the motorhome, as well as solutions that were as lubrication-free as possible.

The drive and guide system for extending the alcove come from external suppliers. Ross works with us on the linear systems and uses a three-point drive here. This sits centrally under the extendable unit; the guide is provided by two aluminium profiles, which are mounted laterally above the alcove. This prevents any misalignment.
A lead screw linear system of the type drylin SLW is used as the central drive. This linear axis with trapezoidal thread (high helix thread and toothed belt are also available) requires no lubrication because the lubricant is incorporated into the slide and guide elements made of iglidur® J material. These elements form an excellent sliding pairing with the shaft made of hard-anodised aluminium.
The drylin® SLW linear axis can be very easily integrated into the surrounding structure. They have a compact design and offer high torsional strength. An electric motor from our comprehensive range is recommended for the drive when used in series production. The aluminium guides that Ross Design uses for the "zoomable" sleeping compartment also come from our product range.
Two parallel lead screw drives of the type drylin SLW also provide the necessary manoeuvrability for the movable kitchen block.
