Compact and economical linear bearings for adjustment devices in body scanners

The Italian Talamonti Group is a manufacturer of devices in the medical and wellness industry. The company focuses on the development and realization of innovative products aimed at improving human well-being.

One of these products is the VUR 120 HS - a body-sized scanner that can perform a morphological diagnosis of patients' lower extremities and pelvis. For example the device can be used before and after phlebological therapy - the treatment of vascular diseases - to assess developments and the success the of therapy and to make diagnoses.

The scanner is also used in postoperative rehabilitation, sports training, aesthetic medicine and body remodeling programs.
Movable linear systems that are as compact as possible and can be adjusted in terms of clearance and friction were needed for several adjustment devices.

The manufacturer found the necessary solution was drylin® T linear guide systems. The drylin® T linear guideway - which gets its name from its characteristic T-shape in the cross section - uses a gliding system instead of a recirculating ball bearing system. This is achieved with the help of the completely self-lubricating and maintenance-free sliding elements made from specially developed polymer materials. The optimized wear properties provide easy handling and a long service life which make the rails and slides in the drylin® series as user-friendly as possible.

At the same time, drylin® T systems have been space-optimized to meet the requirements of manufacturers for added stability and precision. Finally, the rail itself is made of corrosion-resistant and robust hard-anodized aluminum. Together with the polymer glide elements, this creates the optimum glide pairing for smooth and quiet running.
