• Requirements: Fire-retardant, smooth washable surface, groove-free to prevent soiling, high hygiene standards, minimal footprint, easy installation, replaceable components, resistant to wear at high loads.

The radiosurgery operating table from NUOVA BN must fulfil the highest requirements. In a critical environment such as the operating room, fire-retardant, smooth, even, washable, non-reflective and sterilizable surfaces must be guaranteed. In addition, there must be no grooves to prevent the accumulation of dirt.

The challenge was to fulfil these requirements while ensuring reliability, easy disinfection, a minimal footprint and the ability to replace components. A high resistance to wear and chemical resistance was also required. A high load at the lowest possible but consistent rotation speed had to be guaranteed.

The PRT-01-50 slewing ring bearing from igus® proved to be the perfect choice, as it enabled smooth rotation and was therefore able to cope with the load and leverage forces without any problems. In particular, the smooth running of the bearing clearance played a decisive role.

The rotation of the entire system allows the patient to be positioned individually. The lubrication-free material of the iglide® slewing ring bearing fulfils the high standards for hygiene and disinfection in the operating room. The combination of stainless steel and iglide® sliding elements is easy to clean and disinfect.

The possibility of replacing components ensures the continuity of the device in the event of a failure, while minimal maintenance and easy installation optimize operation.
