The ribbon cable e-skin® flat is a cleanroom-compatible cable guidance system made of high-performance plastic that shows no visible wear and tear and is abrasion-resistant.
The cable guides for automation systems and robots in display and semiconductor manufacturing and as well as the medical industry have strict requirements for reducing particulates. This is because any contamination with particles as small as 0.0001mm has a damaging effect on the product and the processes involved in creating them. Unlike customary solutions available on the market which use firmly defined ribbon cables, where stranding elements are firmly fused, the e-skin® flat system uses chambers that can be opened. In just a few minutes, flexible stranding elements (with or without connectors) can be exchanged or added.

Many standard components, such as energy chains, cables, and lubrication points, wear out faster in dry cleanrooms, leading to failures and production downtime. Our lubrication-free, abrasion-resistant, and maintenance-free e-skin flat cable guidance system meets the highest cleanroom standards. It reliably prevents particle formation and ensures trouble-free operation, even at minimal humidity levels. For these reasons, e-skin® flat has been awarded the 2025 Best of Industry Award in the "Battery Development and Production" category.

A: Yes, we tested the closed version of the SKF series in the Fraunhofer IPA test center of semiconductor devices on the basis of ISO class 14644-1 and obtained ISO Class 1 certification.
A: There are two options: One is PVC and the other is nano-F-coated TPE.
A: No, e-skin® flat is only used for unsupported applications to minimize friction; however, for cable guidance long travel and gliding applications in cleanroom environments, igus offers the C6 e-spin solution.
A: The cable strain relief for an e-skin flat is made from a TPE profile integrated into the aluminum mounting bracket. This is based on the outer diameter of the interior cables.
A: That depends on your application but, normally, igus® products have been tested for 10 million double strokes.
A: While tools are not necessary to open an e-skin® flat as is can easily be opened by hand, igus offers a specialized tool to make this process even easier.
A: Yes, additional pods can be added, removed or replaced as necessary. Mounting brackets can be installed either side by side or in a stacked design structure to allow for these changes.
A: Because-skin flat can be easily opened, you can change the cables very quickly. To add additional cables, you can also extend the e-skin flat system by adding another mounting bracket.
