Durable energy supply for SCARA robots

igus® has developed the e-rib to guide cables safely using corrugated hoses. In combination with the reinforcements at both ends and the sag of the corrugated hose and the rotary unions, this solution is ideal for high-speed SCARA applications.

The e-rib fills the joints of the corrugated hose with the ribs and stabilizes it so that it can only move in one direction. Thanks to the guide elements on the sides, the corrugated hose has an unsupported length. When retrofitting, the e-rib enables existing applications to be "upgraded" in just a few simple steps. The e-rib is independent of the hose manufacturer. This solution is currently available in a nominal width of 29mm.

What is behind the SCARA cable solution?

Dynamically reinforced corrugated tube

The reinforcement for existing corrugated tube systems. The e-rib is clipped onto the corrugated hose. The sizes are independent of the hose manufacturer. The e-rib stabilizes the corrugated hose so that it can only move in one direction. Thanks to the guide elements on the sides, the e-rib gives the corrugated hose an unsupported length.

For the SCARA robots, we offer nominal width starting at 29mm.

SCARA cable solution in the igus® test laboratory

This video recorded at the igus® test laboratory shows how the SCARA cable solution works.

The ends of the SCARA mounted on ball bearings ensure an unrestricted rotary connection of the corrugated hose. The e-rib in conjunction with the corrugated hose provide stability so that the corrugated hose doesn't kink due to the movement.

SCARA Cable Solution in ESD

The ESD SCARA Cable Solution consists of optimized, dissipative materials that enable use in ESD environments on the SCARA. The basic design of the standard SCARA Cable Solution, which forms the basis of the energy supply, has been tried and tested in the customer environment since 2020. Thanks to ESD certification, this system offers maximum safety in ESD environments.

The 3D printing material iglide® i8-ESD developed by igus®, which has high abrasion resistance and increased rigidity, serves as the base material for the connections. This specification guarantees secure and strong fastening of the connections.

The conductive corrugated tube in combination with the e-rib, which is also produced from ESD-capable material, completes the energy supply. The e-rib gives the corrugated tube sufficient stability, even in highly dynamic applications. In addition, a form-fit transition between the two end connections ensures certified discharge capability.
