Saves 3 devices and a lot of space... Now 4 sensors in one switch cabinet module

Generally overhauled 2nd generation of the universal switch cabinet module i.Sense:modul II

The generally overhauled i.Sense:modul Generation 2 offers you a multitude of new possibilities and application scenarios for smart condition monitoring. Specifically, with this new generation, four status sensors can be connected to just one switch cabinet module at the same time, which means considerable space and cost savings. And not only in the switch cabinet, but also in the chain itself, as only one cable needs to be run for every four sensors.

In addition to these directly noticeable improvements, the new module now also offers a variety of typical Industry 4.0 use cases such as remote resetting via WLAN or SMS or the SMS/e-mail alarm function in the event of movement anomalies of the energy supply system. The selection of the communication path for configuration and data download with the i.Sense:modul II is exceptionally versatile. In addition to the stationary connections via USB or LAN cable, this can also be done completely over-the-air via WLAN or Bluetooth with any conventional mobile device.

Improve technology

Improve technology

  • Configuration and sensor data download on many channels (USB, LAN, WLAN, Bluetooth, etc.) and various terminal devices
  • SMS/e-mail alarm
  • Position-dependent force limit determination via GPS (optional)
  • Remote reset via LAN/WiFi/SMS (with i.Cee connection)
  • Extension with remote sensor box with up to 4 additional sensors
Cost down

Cost down

  • Up to 4 sensors for condition monitoring in one module (instead of one module for each sensor)
  • Only one additional cable in the chain
  • SD card is completely omitted

Condition monitoring

What does condition monitoring (i.Sense) do?

Condition monitoring is the fastest, simplest way to combine many igus® products to form a self-monitoring smart plastics product. Sensors are mounted to measure values (such as temperature, forces and sound waves/vibrations) within pre-defined limits. Values outside the limits result in an alert or at least a notification. This information provides the basis for taking subsequent steps, such as maintenance or shutting down the system. As desired, values outside defined limits can directly trigger a system shut-down in order to prevent damage that is expensive to repair.
At igus®, we use the term "i.Sense" to refer to condition monitoring.

How do the condition sensors (EC.P) work?

  • The EC.P (EC = e-chain P = pull force) sensor is mounted on the (floating) moving end of the e-chain.
  • There, it measures pull forces applied to the e-chain.
  • If force thresholds are exceeded, the sensor reports the event and, as necessary, switches off  the system to prevent expensive damage to the system.
